SANTA MONICA, CA (September 10, 1999) The website for MGM Pictures’ supernatural thriller Stigmata has become a hub for discussion about the supernatural phenomenon of which much is speculated, but little is known.

Currently in theaters, the film stars Patricia Arquette as an average American whose life becomes a living nightmare when she experiences a series of paranormal attacks which force on her body violent wounds of the stigmata wounds resembling those Christ experienced on the cross. Gabriel Byrne stars as a scientist and priest who becomes more concerned with saving her life than debunking her claims.

The chilling possibility of a person’s body and soul being taken over by the devil has captured the imagination of Internet audiences in anticipation of what promises to be the scariest film of the summer and is already being billed as "the Exorcist of the '90s."

The Stigmata Web site (stigmata.com) offers facts, stories, photographs, and the theatrical trailer, available in QuickTime formats.

Unique to the Stigmata Web site, MGM offers a bulletin board where Web surfers can post their own stigmata stories. This bulletin board has become a hotbed of debate about everything from the nature of stigmata to what people hear about the film. Several visitors have posted their own claims of experiencing the stigmata.
