SAN MATEO, CALIF. (NOVEMBER 11, 1999) - - The annual NewMedia INVISION 99 Awards were announced tonight at what can only be described as a digital extravaganza, as over 50 Gold Award winners vied for one of the 14 prestigious INVISION Awards of Excellence. Peter Bergman, co-founder of Firesign Theatre and a noted high-tech humorist, played host to the event, which was held at the W Hotel in San Francisco.
The evening's big surprise came as the Tokyo-based TRY GROUP ran away with the coveted Best of Show award as well as Best of Web and an Award of Excellence for its exemplary project, Willing-to-TRY. Judges praised this unconventional title for its whimsical approach to teaching in a school system that seemingly undervalued individualism. Another Best of Web was awarded to Children's Television Workshop Online for its educational project CTW Family Workshop. The Best of Title award rounded out the learning theme as it was bestowed upon Anatomy Revealed(tm) from the Medical College of Ohio.
"The NewMedia INVISION Awards recognizes the exemplary digital work being produced around the world," said Hal Josephson, Executive Director, NewMedia INVISION 99 Festival. "The judges looked to each project for its utilization of technical advances in the most creative manner, a job that was made even more difficult due to the record number of entries of this year's event."
