ICSA LABS CONFIRMS THE POWER OF PANDA SOFTWARES TRUPREVENT TECHNOLOGIE’S AGAINST UNKNOWN THREATS The prestigious security laboratory has highlighted the capacity to detect malware with no need for advance updates, along with a lack of false positives and negligible impact on system performance Glendale, CA - March 16 2005 – Panda Software’s TruPreventTM Technologies are effective against new Internet-borne threats. This is the conclusion of a report from ICSA Labs, one of the world’s leading IT security laboratories, after running exhaustive tests on TruPreventTM Technologies. Unlike traditional antivirus solutions, these pro-active detection technologies developed by Panda Software do not need to be updated in advance in order to prevent attacks from unknown viruses and intruders. ICSA has highlighted how these technologies “provides a significant level of protection against common malicious code threats without significantly impacting the performance or interfering with the system”. The test carried out by ICSA Labs has confirmed the following regarding TruPreventTM Technologies: • Ability to protect against a wide range of unknown malware (viruses, Trojans, adware, etc.). ICSA Labs tests used a pre-selected range of varied malware, verifying the capability of TruPreventTM Technologies to block the spread of malicious code. • No false positives. “After exhaustive efforts”, says ICSA Labs, “we were not able to record a single instance of (TruPreventTM Technologies) inappropriately blocking legitimate activity”. • Negligible impact on systems. After carrying out the tests, ICSA Labs thought it doubtful that “a user would perceive any degradation (to the) performance of the system,” and concluded, “We believe the performance impact to be negligible.” The work carried out by ICSA Labs was not aimed at measuring the percentage of unknown malware that TruPreventTM Technologies can block, something that would require an alternative methodology, but rather focused on verifying its performance in pro-actively combating a range of malware specimens (more than 90 samples were used). Internal tests carried out by Panda Software however, have demonstrated that TruPreventTM Technologies have a far greater detection capacity than other pro-active solutions on the market. Similarly, analysis carried out by PC Magazine for another renowned laboratory, AV-Test (http://www.av-test.org), highlighted how TruPreventTM Technologies were able to detect two-thirds of the unknown malware used for the tests. These results have been classified by PC Magazine as “highly impressive for a solution based solely on behavioral analysis”.
