Data center communications for the towns that host them

Community engagement, local press and public meetings, before opposition organizes.

Could we talk this week?

The problem

A data center can be technically sound and still lose trust if residents first hear about it through rumor, a heated meeting or a critical headline. I help teams understand local concerns, answer plainly and build a communications record before opposition organizes.

What I do

  • Community listening and stakeholder mapping
  • Local press strategy and media preparation
  • Public-meeting messaging and speaker coaching
  • Issue response, including breach communications

Relevant experience

I served as Afilias's Director of Corporate Communications when Afilias announced its Guinness World Records title for the largest migration of an internet top-level domain in a single transition. Source

How an engagement works

I review the project, audience, approvals and known concerns; map the people and outlets that shape local understanding; prepare core messages, Q&A and meeting materials; and set a first-response plan for a breach, including the first 72 hours. I do not provide legal advice or promise press coverage.

The first 30 days

  1. Days 1–7: I interview the project team, review existing materials and identify the decisions, risks and audiences that need attention.
  2. Days 8–15: I map local stakeholders and press, listen for recurring questions, and turn them into a plain-language message framework and Q&A.
  3. Days 16–30: I prepare meeting and media materials, rehearse spokespeople, and agree on an escalation and first-72-hours breach communications plan.

Questions

When should I start communications?

Before a public meeting or formal opposition campaign. Early listening gives me time to understand concerns and prepare useful answers.

Do you handle local media and public meetings?

Yes. I can shape local press outreach, prepare spokespeople and build meeting materials around the questions residents are actually asking.

Can you provide legal or permitting advice?

No. I coordinate communications with your legal and permitting teams, but I do not give legal advice or promise regulatory outcomes.

What happens if there is a breach or serious incident?

I help establish roles, approval paths, holding language and an information cadence for the first 72 hours, working alongside security, legal and operations leads.
