At the opening of OCP Global Summit, networking and modular rack designs are central to the infrastructure discussion. These three company announcements address how AI systems connect, scale and accommodate hardware choices.
1. Broadcom outlines open AI networking at OCP
Broadcom’s October 8 announcement previews an OCP portfolio spanning Ethernet switching, network interfaces, PCIe components and integrated optics. It describes solutions for scale-up, scale-out and scale-across networks, including Open Rack Version 3 designs. This is a vendor announcement of technologies and planned presentations, not evidence that every announced configuration has been deployed in customer production.
**Why it matters:** Networking claims need a deployment context. Buyers should distinguish component capability from the performance and interoperability of the complete fabric.

2. Astera Labs introduces the Orion rack-scale reference architecture
Astera Labs announced Orion on October 12 as a modular, compute-agnostic reference architecture. The company says the designs allow CPU and accelerator selection through its OEM and ODM ecosystem and are intended to reduce integration complexity. Its announcement describes a fabric designed to connect up to 160 accelerators per pod. That is a design capability, rather than an independently measured result for every possible system.
**Why it matters:** Infrastructure flexibility has value when supply and workload requirements change. Qualification, software support and availability still need to be checked for the configuration being purchased.

3. Celestica announces the DS6005 co-packaged optics switch
Celestica introduced its DS6005 on October 12. The company describes a liquid-cooled system for ORv3 racks, built around Broadcom’s Tomahawk 6-Davisson platform and designed for up to 102.4 Tbps of switching capacity. The design puts optical engines close to the switch silicon. Claimed efficiency and density benefits should be evaluated in the intended network and operating environment.
**Why it matters:** Optics procurement increasingly intersects with thermal design and serviceability. Those requirements belong in the project plan alongside throughput specifications.

The PressContact view
These announcements point toward more configurable AI infrastructure, but they operate at different levels of the stack. A component portfolio, a reference architecture and a complete switch should not be compared as interchangeable products. Credible positioning identifies the integration problem each one is intended to solve.
